The Role of Undergraduate Programs in Preparing Students with Learning Disabilities for Professional School Enrollment

Abstract

This article identifies a program that provides students with learning disabilities the skills and services needed during their undergraduate experiences so that success is achieved when they enter graduate or professional programs. Drawing on literature associated with the characteristics of successful college students with learning disabilities, written expression, and transition models, The University of Arizona Strategic Alternative Learning Techniques (SALT) Center has developed a model of comprehensive services. Using data associated with the success of the SALT Center alumni in graduate and professional schools, the authors advocate support for such a program 'at the undergraduate level.
