Abstract

General knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was examined for 85 college graduates with learning disabilities. These graduates were asked to rate their general knowledge and understanding of the law as it relates to hiring and employment practices for individuals with disabilities. Approximately one-half to two-thirds of all the graduates reported being unaware of or poorly informed on all provided questions. Also, only about half of the serviced students reported that they had received ADA information and instruction during their college career. The present findings are consistent with other studies that have examined ADA knowledge of college students with disabilities. The inlportance for postsecondary institutions to provide more comprehensive instruction in this area is discussed.
