Abstract

Precursors are early signs of learning disabilities that are evident in children at preschool ages. These precursors are delays in developmental areas such as cognitive, communication and language, social-emotional, adaptive, and motor domains. Preschoolers with learning disabilities have uneven developmental patterns in which some areas are excellent or above age level while other areas are difficult for the child and are below average. Techniques offunctional assessment include curriculumbased measurement (CBA), play assessment, and portfolio evaluation and are recommended for use by busy teachers of inclusive classes. Interventions for young children in inclusive settings who display precursors of learning disabilities can be implemented within natural daily preschool routines and activities.
