Abstract

The experiential learning and arts-based approach of The Lab School of Washington relies on stretching the intellect and tapping the originality and creativity of each student. Described are projects that use technology as a valuable tool in teaching students with learning disabilities and software that enables the student to demonstrate knowledge and talent. Active learning is portrayed through content-based student originated productions as opposed to the passive learning and routine "drill" usually associated with computers. Teaching approaches using the computer and specific soft ware are matched with characteristics of learning disabilities and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
