The Effects of Asthma on School Performance

Abstract

This article reviews the possible effects ofasthma on school performance. Factors which can affect school performance include absenteeism, learning disabilities and achievement, psychological functioning, and medications administered for treatment of an illness. These factors will be reviewed in view of their possible relationships to the educational perfonnance of children with asthma. Recommendations will be made for educational programs that will assist teachers in providing a classroom atmosphere which promotes the optimal academic and social development of students with asthma.
