College Opportunities for Students with Learning Disabilities: Issues and Practices

Abstract

An increasing number of students with learning disabilities are attending college. The major factor leading to this increase has been Section504ofthe Rehabilitation Actof1973. This article discusses the effects of Section 504 upon colleges in meeting the needs of students with learning disabilities. Suggestions for assisting these students to prepare for college and select and gain admission to college are raised. Emphasis is given to easing the transition from high school to college. Various services and aids provided by colleges are discussed.
